Detailed audit results
1. Perceivable
1.1 Text Alternatives
1.1.1 Non-text Content (Level A)
Information about success criterion 1.1.1 Non-text Content
Outcome: Failed
Finding 1: On the homepage, svg images are used to label buttons, for example the button under the text 'Resilience and transformation'. These svg images have no alternative text, as a result the buttons do not have an accessible name, see success criterion 4.1.2. Make sure the svg images have good alternative text that indicates what the button does. For example, with a title element nested in the svg element as the first child element.
Similar issues also occur on other pages. For example:
- https://www.triodos-im.com/articles/2019/case-study-aarstiderne-in-denmark. The button that is labelled with a heart icon.
- https://www.triodos-im.com/articles/2022/q4-2022-emerging-markets-outlook. The button labelled with a heart icon and a number.
- https://www.triodos-im.com/articles/2022/q4-2022-emerging-markets-outlook. The next and previous buttons under the heading 'Related articles'.
Finding 2: In the footer of the homepage, there is a svg image (down arrow) in the combo box. This image is decorative but has role="img", so it needs an alternative text for assistive technology. Without its own alternative text, assistive technology can search for another alternative text itself, for example the file name. Therefore, hide the decorative svg element for assistive technology, for example by using aria-hidden.
Decorative svg images also appear on other pages. For example, on page:
- https://www.triodos-im.com/transition-themes/sustainable-food-and-agriculture.
Finding 3: On the homepage, images appear next to headlines under the 'News and Insights' heading. These images have an alternative text that is the same as the headline they are next to, for example, the image next to the headline 'Macro Monthly - What will 2023 bring?' has the alternative text 'Macro Monthly - What will 2023 bring?'. An alternative text should describe what can be seen on the image. However, these images are decorative and do not need alternative text. Solve this by removing the alternative text on the decorative images and by leaving the alt attribute empty.
This issue also occurs on other pages:
- https://www.triodos-im.com/articles/2019/case-study-aarstiderne-in-denmark
- https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2021
- https://www.triodos-im.com/insights
Finding 4: Page https://www.triodos-im.com/articles/2019/case-study-aarstiderne-in-denmark features a decorative image with the alternative text 'TRI 703 photo Aarstiderne01'. This alternative text does not describe what can be seen on the image. Since the image is decorative, it does not need alternative text. Solve this problem by removing the alternative text from the image.
Finding 5: Page https://www.triodos-im.com/transition-themes/sustainable-food-and-agriculture contains informative images that have no alternative text, for example the image under the heading 'Transition of the entire food value chain'. Give these images an alternative text and make sure to refer to the descriptions on the page.
This issue also occurs on page https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2020/financial-inclusion.
Finding 6: Page https://www.triodos-im.com/articles/2022/q4-2022-emerging-markets-outlook shows an image of a graph without alternative text. Give this image an alternative text that contains the information the graph conveys or add a description in plain text below the image and refer to the description in the alternative text.
Finding 7: On page https://www.triodos-im.com/articles/2022/cop27-no-money-where-the-mouth-is, is an image without alternative text above the text 'Progress and intermediate targets'. The img element of this image has no empty alt attribute. This is required to indicate to assistive technology that this image is decorative and may be ignored.
Finding 8: In the code layer of the PDF 'Impact Report 2021' (https://www.triodos-im.com/binaries/content/assets/shared/fund-assets/tsbif/triodos-sterling-bond-impact-fund-impact-report-2021.pdf), decorative images are placed in figure tags. In PDFs, decorative images should be marked as artefacts. This is how assistive technology knows whether an image is decorative. Remove all decorative images from the code layer and mark them as artefacts.
Finding 9: The PDF 'Impact Report 2021' (https://www.triodos-im.com/binaries/content/assets/shared/fund-assets/tsbif/triodos-sterling-bond-impact-fund-impact-report-2021.pdf) contains informative images with no alternative text. For example, the icons on page 6. Assistive technology cannot figure out the meaning of an image without an alternative text. Make sure all images that convey information have an alternative text.
1.2 Time-based Media
1.2.3 Audio Description or Media Alternative (Prerecorded) (Level A)
Information about success criterion 1.2.3 Audio Description or Media Alternative (Prerecorded)
Outcome: Failed
Finding 10: There is a video on page https://www.triodos-im.com/articles/2019/case-study-aarstiderne-in-denmark. In this video all audio is in Danish. Since the website is for English-speaking users, there must be an English media alternative for this video. This can be a transcript, or use an audio description to also meet success criterion 1.2.5.
The video on page https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2020/financial-inclusion also features audio in a foreign language.
Finding 11: Text appears in the video on page https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2020/financial-inclusion, for example around 0:44. Users who cannot see the screen miss this information. Provide a media alternative to this video so that this information is also available to users who cannot see the screen. This can be a transcript, or use audio description to satisfy success criterion 1.2.5 as well.
1.2.5 Audio Description (Prerecorded) (Level AA)
Information about success criterion 1.2.5 Audio Description (Prerecorded)
Outcome: Failed
Finding 12: There is a video on page https://www.triodos-im.com/articles/2019/case-study-aarstiderne-in-denmark. In this video, all audio is in Danish. Because the website is for English-speaking users, an English audio description must be present. This way, English-speaking visitors who cannot see the screen also know what information is conveyed in the video.
The video on page https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2020/financial-inclusion also features audio in a foreign language.
Finding 13: Text appears in the video on page https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2020/financial-inclusion, for example around 0:44 and 3:51. Users who cannot see the screen miss this information. Make sure this video has an audio description that includes all the information that is visual on screen.
1.3 Adaptable
1.3.1 Info and Relationships (Level A)
Information about success criterion 1.3.1 Info and Relationships
Outcome: Failed
Finding 14: On page https://www.triodos-im.com/contact, the heading 'Contact' is not formatted as a heading. Assistive technology cannot recognise this text as a header. Make sure the text 'Contact' is formatted with a heading element.
Other pages also contain headings that are not formatted with a heading element. For example:
- https://www.triodos-im.com/articles/2019/case-study-aarstiderne-in-denmark. Texts like 'Fair and transparent business practices' are not formatted as headings.
- https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2020/financial-inclusion. Text like 'Addressing global challenges' are not formatted as headings.
Finding 15: On page https://www.triodos-im.com/404 is a list that is not formatted with a list element. As a result, assistive technology cannot indicate that there is a list here. Make sure lists are formatted with a list element.
This problem also occurs on page https://www.triodos-im.com/articles/2022/cop27-no-money-where-the-mouth-is.
Finding 16: Page https://www.triodos-im.com/key-figures contains text formatted as headings, but these texts are not headings. These are the texts such as '30-year track record in investing for impact' that are formatted in an h1 element. Make sure only text which is a heading for the content below, is formatted with a heading element.
Finding 17: On page https://www.triodos-im.com/contact, content hidden behind collapsible buttons (accordions) is read by screen readers. When content is visually hidden, it must also be hidden from assistive technology. It is also possible to place keyboard focus on inflected links, see success criterion 2.4.3. Ensure that content is only available to assistive technology when it is visible on the screen.
This problem also occurs on other pages. For example, on page https://www.triodos-im.com/transition-themes/sustainable-food-and-agriculture and https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2021.
Finding 18: There is a sub navigation menu on page https://www.triodos-im.com/transition-themes/sustainable-food-and-agriculture. In this menu, an underline indicates which anchor link on the page the user is at. This information is not available to assistive technology. Make this information available in the code, for example by placing aria-current on the active element.
This issue also occurs on other pages. For example, on page https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2021 and https://www.triodos-im.com/looking-for-funding/energy-and-climate.
Finding 19: The PDF "The Hain Celestial Group" (https://www.triodos-im.com/binaries/content/assets/tim/proxy-voting/pdfs-2021-proxy-voting/december/thehaincelestialgroup_agm_wl_20211028.pdf) is not coded (tagged). This means that the document structure cannot be determined. It is therefore impossible to determine, for example, what headings are, the alternative text to images and what the reading order is. Because tags are missing, the PDF cannot be fully examined (all success criteria related to the PDF code layer such as semantic headings and alt text for images). Therefore, note that new accessibility issues may arise when solving this problem.
Finding 20: The PDF 'Impact Report 2021' (https://www.triodos-im.com/binaries/content/assets/shared/fund-assets/tsbif/triodos-sterling-bond-impact-fund-impact-report-2021.pdf) is not correctly coded (tagged). For example, headings are not placed in header tags, such as on page 2 with the heading 'Impact highlights 2021'. Also, the reading order of the document is not correct, see success criterion 1.3.2. Ensure that the code layer of the PDF is correctly tagged.
Finding 21: Advice: For the accessibility of a page, it is best to use a logical descending heading structure. The most important heading of a page should have the level 1 heading (<h1>), followed by the level 2 heading (<h2>) for all the subheadings, which will be followed by level 3 headings (<h3>), and so on.
The homepage does start with a level 1 heading but has multiple level 1 headings. Also, these level 1 headings are followed by level 3 headings instead of level 2 headings. Make sure to use a logical descending heading structure on the homepage and other pages.
Finding 22: Advice: In the code of the homepage are two empty h3-elements. Assistive technology users can use a heading list or a heading hotkey to navigate a page. Some assistive technology place empty headings in these lists or make it possible to navigate to an empty heading element using the hotkey. That can be confusing for assistive technology users. Make sure to remove all empty heading elements from the code.
1.3.2 Meaningful Sequence (Level A)
Information about success criterion 1.3.2 Meaningful Sequence
Outcome: Failed
Finding 23: In the code layer of the PDF 'Impact Report 2021' (https://www.triodos-im.com/binaries/content/assets/shared/fund-assets/tsbif/triodos-sterling-bond-impact-fund-impact-report-2021.pdf), tags are not placed in the correct order. For example, on page 6, where the numbers are not directly followed by the corresponding content. As a result, the reading order of the document is not correct. Screen readers, for example, will read the document incorrectly.
1.3.5 Identify Input Purpose (Level AA)
Information about success criterion 1.3.5 Identify Input Purpose
Outcome: Failed
Finding 24: On page https://www.triodos-im.com/looking-for-funding/energy-and-climate is a form where visitors can enter their own e-mail address and name, among other things. The purpose of these and a number of other fields should be able to be determined programmatically, so that fields can be filled in automatically or given extra help with completion. This can be done by adding the autocomplete attribute to input elements. For example, for email address autocomplete="email".
An overview of the fields for which the autocomplete attribute is applicable and the value required in this attribute can be found on page: https://www.w3.org/tr/wcag21/#input-purposes.
1.4 Distinguishable
1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) (Level AA)
Information about success criterion 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum)
Outcome: Failed
Finding 25: On the homepage, headings are placed in front of images. Text needs to have a good contrast between the text colour and the background colour, this is not always the case when text is placed in front of an image. For example, the heading 'Highest possible FNG rating for Triodos IM’s listed equity and bond funds' is a white text that is placed in front of an image with lots of white in it. Because of this, the text has a contrast ratio of 1,1:1 in some places. The entire text should have a contrast ratio of at least 3:1 on the background image. Make sure that all text that are placed in front of images meet contrast ratio standards.
Text placed in front of images can also be found on other pages. For example, on page https://www.triodos-im.com/search?q=investment and https://www.triodos-im.com/key-figures.
Finding 26: The contrast of labels of input fields (HEX #9999C3) on page https://www.triodos-im.com/looking-for-funding/energy-and-climate is too low between the text and white background. The contrast ratio here is 2.7:1, where it should be at least 4.5:1.
Finding 27: In the PDF 'Impact Report 2021' (https://www.triodos-im.com/binaries/content/assets/shared/fund-assets/tsbif/triodos-sterling-bond-impact-fund-impact-report-2021.pdf), white text is placed on a pink background (HEX #FF937B), for example on page 5. The contrast ratio is 2,1:1, where it should be at least 4,5:1.
1.4.5 Images of Text (Level AA)
Information about success criterion 1.4.5 Images of Text
Outcome: Failed
Finding 28: On page https://www.triodos-im.com/transition-themes/sustainable-food-and-agriculture, under the heading 'Sustainable agriculture, healthy food, and fair value chains', there is an image of text. People with poor eyesight cannot adjust the text to enhance readability. Also, the text in the image is not read by screen readers. The text in the image does not appear on the page. Therefore, place this text as HTML text on the page.
Finding 29: On page https://www.triodos-im.com/articles/2022/q4-2022-emerging-markets-outlook is an image of a table. Screen readers cannot read images of tables. Also, users cannot enlarge the table for readability. Place this table with HTML on the page.
1.4.10 Reflow (Level AA)
Information about success criterion 1.4.10 Reflow
Outcome: Failed
Finding 30: When users view the homepage in a viewport of 1280x1024px and zoom in to 400%, the text '100% invested for impact' disappears from the page. It is not allowed for content to disappear when users zoom in on a page. Make sure the text stays on the page when users zoom in.
Finding 31: When visitors zoom in to 200% with a viewport of 1280x1024px on page https://www.triodos-im.com/key-figures, the yellow blocks of text (for example: ‘EUR 6.4 billion in assets under management’) are no longer (entirely) visible on the page, because the content doesn’t reflow properly. Make sure no information or functionality is lost when zooming in on a page.
A similar issue also occurs on page https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2021.
Finding 32: When users zoom in to 400% with a viewport of 1280x1024px on page https://www.triodos-im.com/articles/2022/q4-2022-emerging-markets-outlook parts of the images of the graph and table are not entirely visible. Because images and tables are dependant or their two dimensional layout, they do not need to reflow. However, the information in them still needs to be accessible. Add a horizontal scroll bar, or offer the information in a different way (for example in plain text) to solve this issue.
Finding 33: When visitors zoom in to 400% at a viewport of 1280x1024px on page https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-on-a-global-scale, the buttons that allow visitors to zoom in and out in the map disappear visually. The zoom buttons are still acessible by keyboard. However, they are not visible and have no accessible name and role. Visitors using the keyboard and/or a screen reader will therefore not know which element has focus, or what the element does.
This issues also occurs on page https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2021/.
1.4.11 Non-text Contrast (Level AA)
Information about success criterion 1.4.11 Non-text Contrast
Outcome: Failed
Finding 34: When focus is placed on the search and menu button on the homepage, the focus indicator contrast ratio against the white background is too low. The contrast ratio is 1,2:1, where it should be at least 3:1.
This problem occurs on all pages.
Finding 35: On page https://www.triodos-im.com/search?q=investment, there are links that are underlined, for example the 'investor relations team' link. The contrast ratio of this underlining (HEX #B2AFBA) on the yellow background (HEX #FFFADC) is too low. The contrast ratio here is 2:1 where it should be at least 3:1. The underlining also appears on a white background on page https://www.triodos-im.com/accessibility. Here, the contrast ratio is 2,1:1.
Similar issues also occur on other pages. For example, on page https://www.triodos-im.com/404 and https://www.triodos-im.com/articles/2019/case-study-aarstiderne-in-denmark.
Finding 36: When focus is placed on the links under the 'Press releases' heading on page https://www.triodos-im.com/insights, it is indicated by a bottom border. The contrast ratio between this border and the white background is too low. The contrast ratio is 1.1:1, where it should be at least 3:1.
This problem occurs multiple times on this and other pages. For example, on page https://www.triodos-im.com/looking-for-funding/energy-and-climate.
2. Operable
2.1 Keyboard Accessible
2.1.1 Keyboard (Level A)
Information about success criterion 2.1.1 Keyboard
Outcome: Failed
Finding 37: There is a search box in the map on page https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-on-a-global-scale. It is possible for keyboard users to enter something in this field, but they cannot select a filter. This can only be done with the mouse pointer. Make sure keyboard users can also select filter in this search field.
This map also appears on the pages https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2021/ and https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2020/financial-inclusion.
Finding 38: There are several clickable icons in the map on page https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-on-a-global-scale. It is possible to place focus on these icons with the keyboard, but it is not possible to activate them with the keyboard. Make sure all interactive elements are accessible b keyboard.
This issue also occurs in the map on other pages. For example, on page https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2021/ and page https://www.triodos-im.com/looking-for-funding/energy-and-climate
Finding 39: On page https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-on-a-global-scale, the clickable blocks next to '565 investment examples' cannot be operated by keyboard. It is not possible to place keyboard focus on these elements. Make sure everything that can be operated with the mouse pointer can also be operated with the keyboard.
This issues also occurs on page https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2021/ and page https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2020/financial-inclusion.
2.1.4 Character Key Shortcuts (Level A)
Information about success criterion 2.1.4 Character Key Shortcuts
Outcome: Failed
Finding 40: The page https://www.triodos-im.com/articles/2019/case-study-aarstiderne-in-denmark uses YouTube's video player. This video player uses control by some character keys, e.g. f for fullscreen. This functionality interferes with screenreader short cut keys. Solve this by modifying the embed code of the YouTube video to disable control with character keys. The property to add to the embed code is 'disablekb=1'. With this modification, you ensure that you meet this success criterion.
2.2 Enough Time
2.2.2 Pause, Stop, Hide (Level A)
Information about success criterion 2.2.2 Pause, Stop, Hide
Outcome: Failed
Finding 41: There is a video that plays automatically on the homepage. When content, like videos, play automatically there should be an mechanism for the users to pause, stop or hide this content. Make sure there is such a mechnism for this video on the homepage.
A similiar video also appears on other pages. For example, on page https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2021 and https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2020/financial-inclusion.
2.4 Navigable
2.4.1 Bypass Blocks (Level A)
Information about success criterion 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks
Outcome: Failed
Finding 42: The homepage contains a skip link (a mechanism to jump to another part of the page), but the skip link to the main content does not get focus first. Make sure visitors can jump directly to the main content of a page without having to perform any additional actions to do so.
This issue occurs on all pages.
Finding 43: Advice: There are many links under the 'News and Insights' heading the homepage. It takes keyboard users a lot of physical actions and time to navigate through all these links using the tab key. It would be helpful if a skip link is placed here that allows keyboard users to skip this section. This way, keyboard users can better navigate the page.
Similar sections can be found on other pages. For example, on page:
- https://www.triodos-im.com/articles/2022/q4-2022-emerging-markets-outlook.
2.4.2 Page Titled (Level A)
Information about success criterion 2.4.2 Page Titled
Outcome: Failed
Finding 44: The PDF "The Hain Celestial Group" (https://www.triodos-im.com/binaries/content/assets/tim/proxy-voting/pdfs-2021-proxy-voting/december/thehaincelestialgroup_agm_wl_20211028.pdf) does not have a document title. Make sure the document has a title that properly describes the content. Also, the properties should specify that on initial view, the document title is shown and not the file name.
The PDF 'Impact Report 2021' (https://www.triodos-im.com/binaries/content/assets/shared/fund-assets/tsbif/triodos-sterling-bond-impact-fund-impact-report-2021.pdf) also does not have a document title.
Finding 45: Advice: The page titles do not always name the website, for example the title of page https://www.triodos-im.com/search?q=investment. It is useful when a page title names the name of the website, users who cannot see the screen then know right away which website the page belongs to.
2.4.3 Focus Order (Level A)
Information about success criterion 2.4.3 Focus Order
Outcome: Failed
Finding 46: When users visit the website for the first time, a cookie notice is displayed on screen. This notification message is in front of other content, for example, the footer is not visible because of the notice. Because the cookie notice is in front of other content, it is important that it gets keyboard focus first on the website. This way, keyboard users can close the notification immediately and other content is not blocked by the notice. This is not the case on the website. The notification gets focus last on the homepage. Make sure the cookie notice is the first element to get keyboard focus.
Finding 47: On the homepage, after the 'About Triodos IM' link, the focus is placed on the 'Skip to the main content' skip link at the top of the page. The focus order should flow logically throughout the page. In the middle of a page focus should not suddenly be placed on an element at the top of the page. Solve this problem by making sure that focus is not placed on the skip link after the link 'About Triodos IM'.
A similar issue also occurs on multiple pages. For example, on page https://www.triodos-im.com/search?q=investment and https://www.triodos-im.com/accessibility.
Finding 48: Page https://www.triodos-im.com/contact has collapsible buttons (accordions). Hidden under these buttons are links. For keyboard users, it is possible to place focus on these links when they are not visible. It is not allowed to place focus on elements when they are not visible. Make sure it is only possible to place focus on the links when they are visible on screen.
This issue also occurs on other pages. For example, on page https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2021.
2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context) (Level A)
Information about success criterion 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context)
Outcome: Failed
Finding 49: On page https://www.triodos-im.com/contact, the image 'Landgoed De Reehorst, The Netherlands' is formatted as a link. This link does not have an accessible name. As a result, screen reader users do not know where the link refers to. Make sure the link has an accessible name that describes the purpose of the link.
Links without an accessible link target also occur on page https://www.triodos-im.com/proxy-voting-how-we-voted.
Finding 50: There are several links on page https://www.triodos-im.com/proxy-voting-how-we-voted that have the same link name but refer to other pages. When links have the same name, they must refer to the same page, as the difference between two links with the same name is difficult to tell for screen reader users. Solve this problem by adding the name of the file the link refers to to the accessible of the links.
Similar issues also occur on page https://www.triodos-im.com/transition-themes/sustainable-food-and-agriculture.
2.4.7 Focus Visible (Level AA)
Information about success criterion 2.4.7 Focus Visible
Outcome: Failed
Finding 51: It is not indicated when keyboard focus is placed on certain element on the homepage, like the links under the heading 'In the spotlight'. When focus is not shown by a visual indicator, it is difficult for sighted keyboard users to determine which element has focus. Therefore, make sure that focus is always shown by a visual indicator, like a focus border.
This issues also occurs with other elements on this and other pages. For example, it is not visible when focus is placed on the links under the heading 'News and Insights' on the homepage, or when focus is placed on the button in the search field on page https://www.triodos-im.com/search?q=investment.
2.5 Input Modalities
2.5.3 Label in Name (Level A)
Information about success criterion 2.5.3 Label in Name
Outcome: Failed
Finding 52: In the footer of each page is a combo box. This combo box has no label, see success criterion 3.3.2, but it appears that 'Investment Management' is the label for this element. This does not match the accessible name of the combo box, which is 'Other Triodos websites'. Make sure that the visual label of an element appears in the accessible name. Solve this problem by placing the label 'Other Triodos websites' visually near the combo box.
3. Understandable
3.1 Readable
3.1.1 Language of Page (Level A)
Information about success criterion 3.1.1 Language of Page
Outcome: Failed
Finding 53: In the properties of the PDF "The Hain Celestial Group" (https://www.triodos-im.com/binaries/content/assets/tim/proxy-voting/pdfs-2021-proxy-voting/december/thehaincelestialgroup_agm_wl_20211028.pdf), the language is not specified. Make sure the language setting matches the language used in the PDF.
Finding 54: In the properties of the PDF 'Impact Report 2021' (https://www.triodos-im.com/binaries/content/assets/shared/fund-assets/tsbif/triodos-sterling-bond-impact-fund-impact-report-2021.pdf) the language of the document is set to Dutch, while the content of the document are in English. Make sure the language setting matches the language used in the PDF.
3.3 Input Assistance
3.3.1 Error Identification (Level A)
Information about success criterion 3.3.1 Error Identification
Outcome: Failed
Finding 55: When visitors on page https://www.triodos-im.com/looking-for-funding/energy-and-climate submit the form without having entered all the fields correctly, notifications appear near the input fields, such as "Please enter a valid name'. This is an error suggestion, not an error identification. The visitor should receive an error message when an input field is not properly filled in or the form cannot be submitted properly. The error message should describe what error was made and where it was made. For example 'The field 'Name' is not filled out. Please fill in your full name'
3.3.2 Labels or Instructions (Level A)

4.1.1 Parsing (Level A)
Information about success criterion 4.1.1 Parsing
Outcome: Failed
Finding 57: On the homepage, buttons are nested in link elements, for example the button near the 'Resilience and transformation' heading. This makes the operation of these buttons difficult, for example when visitors use assistive technology. Make sure interactive elements, such as buttons and links, are not nested in other interactive elements.
This problem also occurs on other pages. For example, on the page:
Finding 58: In the homepage code, there is an unclosed <div>. Unclosed elements can cause problems for assistive technology. Make sure that all elements are properly closed.
Finding 59: In the code of page https://www.triodos-im.com/transition-themes/sustainable-food-and-agriculture, there are duplicate ids, for example the ids 'accordion-button-2' and 'accordion-content-5'. Double ids can cause problems for assistive technology. Make sure ids have unique values on a page.
Finding 60: The code of page https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-on-a-global-scale contains an ul element in which a div element is nested. Only li, script and template elements are allowed to be nested in ul element.
This issue also appears on page https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2021.
4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (Level A)
Information about success criterion 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value
Outcome: Failed
Finding 61: The search button on the homepage does not have an accessible name. Without an accessible name it will be difficult for users of assistive technologies to operate this button. Make sure the button gets an accessible name that describes what the button does, for example by using aria-label.
Other buttons on this and other pages also do not have an accessible name. For example, the button under the text 'Resilience and transformation' on the homepage, or on:
- https://www.triodos-im.com/search?q=investment. Among others, the button in the search field.
- https://www.triodos-im.com/articles/2022/q4-2022-emerging-markets-outlook. The next and previous button under the heading 'Related articles'.
- https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2021. Among others, the buttons under the heading 'Triodos Impact Private Debt and Equity funds'.
Finding 62: Page https://www.triodos-im.com/contact has collapsible buttons (accordions). For people who can see the screen, it is clear when a button is collapsed and when it is not. This information is not available to people who cannot see the screen and use a screen reader. Make sure that the code indicates when a button is collapsed and when it's not, for example by using aria-expanded.
This problem also occurs on other pages. For example, on page https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-on-a-global-scale and https://www.triodos-im.com/impact-report/2020/financial-inclusion/.
Finding 63: On page https://www.triodos-im.com/articles/2019/case-study-aarstiderne-in-denmark is an iframe element without a title attribute. Because of this the iframe does not have an accessible name. Make sure the iframe element gets a title attribute.
Finding 64: The combo box on page https://www.triodos-im.com/looking-for-funding/energy-and-climate does not have an accessible name. It may be difficult for users of assistive technology to operate the combo box. Give the combo box an accessible name, for example with a label element and link the label to the combo box with for and id attributes.
Finding 65: When users visit the page https://www.triodos-im.com/articles/2019/case-study-aarstiderne-in-denmark for the first time, there is a cookie notice on the video. The button to accept this notice does not have type="submit" on the button element. This is required because data is sent when users press the button.
4.1.3 Status Messages (Level AA)
Information about success criterion 4.1.3 Status Messages
Outcome: Failed
Finding 66: When users make an error in the form on page https://www.triodos-im.com/looking-for-funding/energy-and-climate and submit it, error messages appear on the screen. Screen readers do not notice these messages. As a result, users who cannot see the screen miss the error messages. Make sure the error messages are noticed by assistive technologies, for example by using aria-live.
Basis for this evaluation
The audit was conducted based on the evaluation method of the W3C, WCAG-EM. This is largely done manually by taking a sample. For a quickscan we use parts of this methodology. Despite all the researcher's care and experience, it is possible that a problem has not been identified. Keep in mind that in a next audit certain parts could be assessed differently because of further development of techniques and assistive software. Tools are used in the manual audit.
